Cleaning an oven is one of the most‑googled household tasks[7]. Grease splatters and baked‑on food not only look bad but can produce smoke and odors. In warm climates like DFW, running a long self‑clean cycle can heat up your kitchen, so a quick, manual approach is often preferable.

Quick‑clean method

  1. Prepare: Turn off the oven and ensure it’s cool. Remove oven racks and set them in the sink or bathtub lined with towels to protect surfaces.

  2. Create steam: Place a pan of water with a few drops of dish soap inside the oven. Preheat to 225 °F (107 °C) for 15 minutes. The steam loosens burned‑on residue[7].

  3. Make a cleaning paste: While the oven steams, mix half a cup of baking soda with enough water to form a spreadable paste. Add a few drops of mild dish soap for extra degreasing power.

  4. Apply and wait: After the oven cools slightly, use a damp cloth or gloved hand to spread the paste on the interior surfaces (avoid heating elements). Let it sit for 20–30 minutes.

  5. Scrub and wipe: Use a non‑abrasive sponge or nylon scrubber to lift the softened grease. For corners, use an old toothbrush. Wipe away residue with a damp cloth, rinsing frequently.

  6. Clean the racks: Soak racks in hot water with dish soap and a half‑cup of vinegar for 15 minutes. Scrub with a brush or scouring pad, rinse and dry.

  7. Final rinse: Wipe the oven interior with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining baking soda. Leave the door open to air‑dry.

Additional tips

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Commercial oven cleaners emit strong fumes and may damage interior coatings. Homemade solutions are safer and align with sustainable cleaning trends[5].

  • Use a drip tray: To prevent future messes, place a baking sheet under casseroles or pies that might bubble over.

  • Regular wipe‑downs: A quick wipe after each use takes seconds and prevents buildup.

  • Ventilate: Even a mild cleaning solution produces vapors; open windows or run the exhaust fan to keep air fresh.
